How to Build a Better Creative Business

buildbusiness

Last year around this time, I got on the phone with Timothy Adam (the man behind Handmadeology), and we had a chat about the creative community we both love so much.  You see, the economists are calling what we (as creative business owners) are doing the “maker’s movement.” Basically, they’re trying to figure out where this billion-dollar industry came from. And here we are: the people that created that movement from our own imaginations. We all followed our bright ideas into business!

That’s good news, but it’s only going to continue to grow from here. And it’s only only going to get harder to stand out in an already overcrowded marketplace.

Sometimes not knowing how to market your business, or even what to do next in order to grow, can slow you down or worse! It can stop your progress altogether. How many of us have asked ourselves (because who else is there for us to ask), “How do I get to the next level? How do I achieve the high sales and success of those around me?”

Tim and I understand; it’s who we are too. And what we’re realizing now more than ever is that our interconnectedness … our having a network among each other, is vital to our individual AND collective success.

We feel that THIS is your year, before everything gets too vast and everyone gets lost in cyberspace. You need the tools, you need the resources, and you don’t have the luxury of time that I had, even a couple of years ago, to figure it all out.

So, we created a learning curve.

Tim and I emphatically agree that you, as a creative entrepreneur, should be able to experience whatever level of success you’re striving to achieve. It’s 100% do-able. We also know that we have the experience and passion to teach the skills, share the insight, and offer the information that you need.  We teach what we’ve already tested and proven …

Tim’s been in this industry since 2007. He knows how to sell online, how to gain press, how to grow a blog into a community of 20,000 creatives, and how to attract 40,000 fans.

In 2010, I started an Etsy shop and set out to build a work-at-home career. To date, I have marketed my shop into a top-selling success story and made more than six figures with my creative business. It now provides my family a hearty and reliable second income.

Here’s how it works:

The Build a Better Creative Business course is run on a password-protected website, and participants have three months’ access to the material. Enrollment is open for the current session through March 9, 2014. There are eighteen classes inside the course, ten of those are led by either Lisa or Timothy. The rest of the classes are taught by an extraordinary line-up of expert contributors (including Kerry!).

In addition, there are four mastermind sessions, and these are live events hosted by Tim and Lisa. If you’re not familiar with mastermind sessions, think private group coaching + brainstorming session + solution-generating magic.

Inside the course, experts in the field unleash an abundance of insight, next actions, downloadable tools, resources, and specific how-to information. The classes are broadcast on our website 2 times per week throughout the first eight weeks of enrollment. After those first eight weeks, the course remains open to the participants so that you may revisit any lessons, gather all of the downloads, ask any further questions, etc.

What You’ll Get

The Build a Better Creative Business Course includes:

  • 10 Private lessons led by either Tim or Lisa.
  • 8 Bonus lessons from our selected group of masters: we called in the big guns of our industry, and you’re going to be blown away by the people you meet inside this course.

It’s Time to Build a Better Creative Business

Screen Shot 2013-09-02 at 2.49.22 PMI’m very excited to announce the official launch of the awesome Build a Better Creative Business course, co-hosted by Timothy Adam (Handmadeology), Lisa Jacobs (Marketing Creativity), and a special appearance from me!

Many of you already know Lisa from her guest posts here about marketing and goal setting. They are always packed with useful information that you can use right away. A lot of you are also familiar with Tim’s site Handmadeology, that shares ooddles of tips and resources for Etsy seller. If not, go learn more about them after you read this post!

This course is specifically catered to the creative community. If you’ve ever considered a business coaching package or if you’re ready to take your business to the next level, then you are going to be amazed at what is offered here. Let me explain …

The Making of a Creative Business

When opening a creative business, a lot of us employed that “Field of Dreams” mentality. If you build it, they will come. Right? When you’re loading up your first page of products on an e-commerce site, you’re often imagining the rush of customers you’ll experience, and the demand you’ll have to accommodate.

And then when that fails to happen, you end up deflated. We’ve all created some unrealistic expectations for ourselves at one time or another.

So, if you’ve gotten past that point, I congratulate you … just for recognizing that there’s more to it. Most people hit that first speed bump, and turn around and go home. While you, on the other hand, are here because you realized that it’s not as easy as it may have seemed … and you have decided that you’re willing to do the work. You’ve already beat the majority in this game just by having the willingness to forge ahead. I appreciate that you understand that there’s building involved because that mentality is rarer than you think. If I may, I want to take this opportunity to say, well done and keep up the good work.

Building a Creative Business

Here’s the thing: you probably don’t personally know anybody who’s built the kind of career or business that you want to build. Why? Because it’s only yours to dream up, and it’s innovative to the world around you. And that’s AWESOME!

But, here’s the catch: it can be extremely difficult to do something you’ve never done before.

Sometimes not knowing how to do what you want to do next can slow you down, or worse! It can stop your progress altogether. How many of us have asked ourselves–because who else is there for us to ask!–how to get to the next level? How to achieve the higher levels of success we see around us?

Timothy Adam (of Handmadeology) and Lisa Jacobs (of Marketing Creativity) recognized this; they understand. It’s who they are too. And what we’re all realizing now more than ever is that our interconnectedness … our having a network among each other … is vital to our individual AND collective success.

The Maker’s Movement

The economists are calling what we (as creative business owners) are doing, the “maker’s movement.”

Basically, they’re trying to figure out where this billion-dollar industry came from. And here we are: the people that created that movement out of our own imaginations. We all followed our bright ideas into business, and there you have it.

And that’s good news, but it’s only going to continue to grow from here. And it’s only going to get harder to stand out in an already overcrowded marketplace.

Tim and Lisa deeply understand your plight. They’ve pushed through those times of uncertainty and each built a business around their creative dreams. THIS is your year, before everything gets too vast, and everyone gets lost in cyberspace. You need the tools, you need the resources, and you don’t have the luxury of time that makers had, even a couple of years ago, to figure it all out.

So, Tim and Lisa created a learning curve.

Build a Better Creative Business: The Course

You, as a creative entrepreneur, should be able to experience whatever level of success you’re striving to achieve. It’s 100% do-able. And since Tim and Lisa have the experience and passion to teach the skills, insight, and information you need, they’ve decided to combine their efforts and rally the handmade community together to show you the way.

Today they’re unveiling what they’ve been building to help YOU build a business that will rise about the rest of the maker’s movement. It’s called the Build a Better Creative Business Course, and it’s essentially a series of classes that taught on all of the advanced topics of creative business.

But, hold onto your hat because it doesn’t stop there. When it came to the creative business material that Tim and Lisa didn’t have experience in, they called in more big guns in the industry … including yours truly! For example, neither of them have ever licensed their designs, so they called on someone who did … and that person is teaching a class on how to license your designs. They’ve never applied to Shark Tank or been featured on a television special before, so they called on someone who was … and that person’s teaching a class on public relations and media exposure.

All those things you’ve ever wondered about another’s success? Tim and Lisa called on them and asked, “Would you come show us ALL how to do what you’ve done?” And they ALL agreed.

How it works:

The course is run on a password-protected website, most classes are led in text format (written out as an in-depth article), and participants have three months’ access to the material. Enrollment is open for the current session now through September 30, 2013 (though it will close early if the course sells out before then).

There are sixteen classes inside the course, nine of those are led by either Lisa or Tim. The rest of the classes are taught by an extraordinary line-up of expert contributors.

In addition, you will receive six weeks’ worth of unlimited, private coaching from Lisa Jacobs. Her coaching packages don’t come cheap, but you can consider her at your service for the next six weeks. There are also *THREE*  live mastermind sessions. If you’re not familiar with mastermind sessions, think private group coaching + brainstorming session + solution-generating magic.

Inside the course, experts in the field unleash an abundance of insight, next actions, downloadable tools, resources, and specific how-to information. The classes are broadcast 2-3 times per week throughout the first eight weeks of enrollment. After those first eight weeks, the course remains open to the participants so that you may revisit any lessons, gather all of the downloads, go at your own pace, ask any further questions, etc.

A few things for you to consider:

  1. Due to the extremely personalized and attentive nature of the course, they’re only accepting a limited number of participants. They are anticipating that the course will be full (sold out) early in the enrollment process.
  2. The course is enrolling now, and the first class airs September 9. Classes are released one at a time (there are 16) throughout the first eight week period, but you take the course at your own pace throughout your 3-month membership.
  3. This course will run again, but at an increased price (and after several months’ wait)

Shop Fundamentals E-Program from Lisa Jacobs

It’s Lisa Jacobs of Marketing Creativity, and you might recognize me from my recent series here on Handmade Success about Marketing Your Creative Business.

I’m here today to tell you about my first e-program titled, Shop Fundamentals: How to Build a Solid Foundation for Your Creative Business, Turn Your Visitors into Paying Customers, and Keep People Coming Back for More. It’s been an absolute labor of love, and I’m so excited to bring it into the world!

It’s Time.

I asked the handmade community: How can I help you make 100 sales this month?

You told me …

I just want to make my NEXT sale. My views aren’t converting into purchases. I think something FUNDAMENTAL is missing from my shop.

I asked: How can I help you drive more traffic to your shop? You responded …

How do I get the traffic I have to start buying already?!

Point taken. If you’re not already getting the sales you’d like, your shop isn’t ready for more traffic. That would be a waste of time, effort, and valuable funds.

I did my research, and this is what I found:

Many of you are struggling to be seen, and when you are found, your shop views are not converting into sales. You’ve told me you are stumped by SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and you have no idea how to get more buying customers to your storefront. When you do make a sale, you ship the order and never hear from the customer again. There’s no system in place to encourage regular, repeat business.

I can offer you 1,001 marketing ideas that will help you get potential customers onto your website, but if you’re missing any of the key fundamentals in your shop, you’ll never gain their business. You have two seconds to make an impression and present your products to visitors. You better make them count.

Are you Ready to Go Beyond the Basics?

I’m not talking about elementary, beginner details, such as “What will I make? Where will I sell? What will I call my business?” You’ve figured that out by now. I know that you have already set-up an online storefront and you’re ready to take it beyond the basics.

When I opened shop on Etsy, I gobbled up all of the beginner advice I could find. After I made a few sales, I was ready to build a real business. I started looking around for an expert on the subject, asking, “And then what? Now what do I do?” I wanted to turn my shop into a sales machine. I wanted to understand why other shops were outperforming me. I wanted to know how my role models had become so successful. Shop Fundamentals is the answer to, “And then what?”

A Successful Creative Business Starts Here.

I never found the one resource I was looking for. Why? Because it hadn’t been written yet. I’ve studied hundreds of business books to pull out every useful bit and piece that actually applies to the handmade marketplace. I have written an e-program packed with marketing advice that is lean, clean, and catered directly to your needs. It’s all of the information I’ve been searching for, proudly presented to you …

You will learn:
  • How to understand and benefit from Search Engine Optimization (SEO) in simple, no-nonsense terms
  • How and where to employ relevant keywords that will help more customers find you
  • The key elements of a visitor’s first impression and how to make yours count
  • How to keep your visitors interested and engaged
  • How to turn your visitors into paying customers
  • How to improve your listings and descriptions for maximum results (effective copywriting)
  • How to subtly address your customer’s doubts and concerns, and solidify their confidence to buy
  • How to get recognized in your industry and claim your expertise
  • How to keep your customers coming back for more
  • Customer service strategy that will turn paying customers into raving fans
You will get:
  • Shop Fundamentals: How to Build a Solid Foundation for Your Shop, Turn Your Visitors into Paying Customers, and Keep Them Coming Back for More in PDF file
  • Shop Fundamentals: The Workbook in PDF file. This workbook is worth its virtual weight in gold! It will help you implement and explore everything you have learned throughout the Shop Fundamentals program.
  • Advertising ideas that will help you form an effective marketing strategy.
  • Instruction to avoid the BIGGEST common mistakes in the marketplace. The majority of sellers are making these mistakes and unknowingly turning business away. Chances are, you’re one of them.
  • Direct, no-nonsense advice. I know you’re past what to call your shop, and how to list an item. I’m not going to waste your time (or mine) giving you information you already have. This is straight-to-the-point instruction. Don’t buy it unless you’re ready to take your shop to the next level.
  • A Money-Back Guarantee. I know and respect that your business funds are important to you. I know for a fact that this product is like nothing else on the market. I am so confident that you’ll love this program, I offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. No questions asked.
  • An Invitation to My (Very Generous) Affiliate Program. I love and appreciate my partnerships and connections within the handmade community. I wouldn’t be where I am without them. My affiliate program is so beneficent, you’ll earn the purchase price on this program by sharing the information and selling just TWO copies. In fact, you’ll earn a profit. Complete details are included inside.

I’m so excited to deliver this to you. Thank you for your continued support! Until next time and all the best, Lisa Jacobs
