Summer Reading List

The weather is starting to warm up here in Chicago and I am daydreaming of my favorite summer activities. One of which is finding a nice spot outdoors for reading a good book. I already have a couple on my summer reading list and would love it if you helped me add to it with books from your list!

Fire Starter Sessions by Danielle LaPorte

I am so excited to dive into this book! I feel like everyday that goes by I am missing out on some pearls of wisdom. I have a feeling I will be reading this along with some of you.

Born Again Vintage by Bridgett Artise + Jen Karetnick

My mother-in-law gave me this book for my birthday and I am hoping to tackle at least one of the projects in here this summer. They are very ambitious but very cool!

Murder On The Flying Scotsman by Carola Dunn

Here is my guilty pleasure! I discovered this mystery series while visiting my mom last spring and was so taken by the cover art that I wrote about it here. I have found that reading about solving mysteries in 1920′s England is a perfect way to unwind.

Please share your picks in the comments! Also, any e-books or e-courses too. Now, I know some of you are going into winter so I would love it if you shared the books you are ready to curl up with under a blanket. Happy reading!

  1. Sarah says:

Ohhh that firestarter book looks great! Adding to my library request list!

  2. If you love to laugh as I do, then read A Girl Named Zippy by Haven Kimmel. It is a true story about growing up in a town of around 200 people in the 1960′s. Her acute observations and wit made me laugh out loud and wish the book would never end.

I also just finished The Road from Coorain by Jill Ker Conway and it is about her memoir of growing up in Australlia. A fabulous book.

Thanks for sharing your list….I will be adding Firestarter to my list!

  3. kerry says:

Yes to Firestarter! I think it will help you and your business so much – the reviews have been phenomenal!

Thanks for the recommendations Claudia! I have not read a book that made me laugh out loud in a while so that sounds like a real treat.

  4. I’m about halfway through my Firestarter sessions and I already know I’m going to turn right around and start reading it again just to make sure I’ absorbing all it guru goodness!! Born again vintage looks awesome I’m adding it to my book list :)

  5. We are heading into winter and I am curling up with Bill Bryson, At Home on my ipad every night. It is super interesting and sometimes even down-right hilarious. He has a great gift for turning fact into entertaining reading. Consider me hooked. :)

I love hearing this about the Firestarter Sessions Tiffany! The Born Again Vintage book will help you make use a fabulous vintage finds that don’t fit or are not in perfect condition.

  7. Patty says:

I have Danielle’s book sitting on my coffee table too – waiting to just dive in. I’m also in the midst of a book called “Wild” by Cheryl Strayed right now that’s akin to “Eat Pray Love” but instead features the pacific coast trail and is way gritter and dirtier.

  8. Shannon says:

Thank you for the recommendations! I can’t wait to pick up my copy of the Fire Starter Sessions especially after reading the first chapter that is available on her website. Murder on the Flying Scotsman is now on my list. I would recommend The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova for a fun read and of course the Steve Jobs biography which I have just started.

  9. kerry says:

I might have to ask this questions regularly because I am loving learning about these books!

@Lelanie – I just looked up that book and it sounds so interesting – can’t wait to check it out!

@Patty – Wow! Wild sounds intense!

I love it that you are all reading non-fiction and am adding these all to my list!

  10. Deanna says:

I am checking out the Carol Dunn books, thank you. I love mysteries. But even more than mysteries, I love end-of-the-world/post-apocalyptic stories.

I recently finished The Passage by Justin Cronin and I loved it.

Right now I’m reading The Scorch Trials, book 2 in the Maze Runner series by James Dashner.

Oh, and I just read Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. It was better than I expected and is a great historical read with the fictional vampires blended in so well it makes you wonder …

I’m also reading The Fire Starter Sessions … fabulous.

  11. kerry says:

Totally loving all of these new books!

  12. Oh yes! I already have my copy of the Fire Starter Session book at home and I’m at 1/3 of the book and printed out the workbook too. Can definitely say that it has many really great points that deserve to be read again and again.

I think it will become a must-have for all peolple that are trying to develop a project by themselves and a own business.

I can also suggest Seth Godin’s books.
Last summer I read Purple Cow and The Big Moo: Stop Trying to Be Perfect and Start Being Remarkable :)

  13. kerry says:
